NEWBERRY — Laurence David Wicker, 84, of Chapin, formerly of Newberry and Greenwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Harbor Chase of Columbia.

Born on Dec. 27, 1928, in Chappells, he was a son of the late Laurence D. and Ruth Dominick Wicker. He lived in Newberry until his graduation from Newberry College.

Mr. Wicker was a retired insurance agent with Life Insurance of Georgia. He served in the S.C. National Guard and held membership in the Chapin American Legion Post 193.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a former member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Greenwood.

Mr. Wicker is survived by his wife of 66 years Christine Murphy Wicker; a daughter Dianne Wicker Perry and her husband Dana of Chapin; sisters, Jean (Charles) Simmons of Newberry and Patsy (Fate) Crouch of Johnston; brother Ray K. Wicker of Newberry; grandchildren, Joseph (Jennifer) Pinder and LoriAne (William) Lester; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kayce, Jordan, Joey, and Kaylee and great-great-grandchildren, Kyler and Parker.

He was predeceased by his grandson Phillip Andrew Perry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Karen Radcliff, Rev. Tresco Shannon and the Rev. Paul Allen. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
