SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — The Newberry Wolves men’s golf team shot a 27-over par 603 to tie for second place as the only non-Division I team in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Wolves tied with Eastern Kentucky, 10 strokes behind tournament champions Tennessee-Martin. Newberry’s solid performance in this event will be a great boost for the Wolves when they play the same course for the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships next month.
Chandler Gruenemeier tied for eighth in the tournament with a 4-over par 148 in the 36-hole tournament. Tommy Hurst tied for 15th at 6-over par 150.
Ewen Donaldson tied for 21st in the event with an 8-over par 152, Jon Weiss tied for 26th with a 9-over par 153 and John Paul Ferguson was 42nd with a14-over par 158. Competing as an individual, Ryan Wilkinson was 59th at 23-over par 167.
The Wolves return to action closer to home in a week’s time at Lander’s Bearcat Golf Classic at Greenwood Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
