NEWBERRY COUNTY — Easter rises at the end of the month — March 31 — and there are plenty of activities hopping around the county. While churches have their individual egg hunts and other Easter services, there are also community events.

For church services, check with your church home or check the local calendar for events.

Here are some of the events going on in Newberry County:

March 23

The Whitmire Jaycees get a head start on Easter hunting with their annual egg hunt at 1 p.m. This year, the Jaycees will have it in the park beside the Whitmire Community Center due to the ongoing library construction. Children should bring a basket or container.

The City of Newberry also hosts its egg hunt at 10 a.m. in Mollohon Park with three age categories. All children under age 10 can participate and all children must bring a basket or container. Refreshments will also be served.

Glory Tabernacle Church holds a community Easter celebration complete with an egg hunt, games and rides from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 476 Fish Hatchery Road in Newberry.

A non-profit out of Prosperity also has a little something to offer the community. The Hearts and Hands Ministry has a community egg hunt at 6226 Macedonia Church Road. Children should bring their own basket.

March 28

For the residents in the Helena community of Newberry, the Involved Citizens of Helena Community bring their annual Easter celebration free to children at 5 p.m. at the Helena Community Center when adults bring an egg hunt to the children. Afterwards, the children can count their collections and enjoy some time with parents and friends over refreshments.

March 30

An egg hunt extravaganza happens courtesy of the Masons and Shriners from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Newberry Shrine Club. Every year, eggs cover the entire field outside the Shrine club and children, organized by age groups, scatter out and collect as many eggs and prizes as they can.

Games and rides are also featured along with plenty of food to enjoy with the family. Children need to bring their own basket.

The Brookland Community Club holds it inaugural egg hunt at Marion Davis Park for those under age 12 years. Kids need to bring their own basket. The organization is a fairly young group looking to positively influence the youth in the Brookland area of Newberry.

The Newberry County Memorial Hospital has a spring and Easter weekend for the whole family. An egg hunt follows the 5k run/walk finishes. The 5k starts around 8:30 a.m.
