PROSPERITY — The boys and girls middle school basketball teams wrapped up their 2012-13 season. Below are the highlights and players.
Girls Basketball, 4-6
Head Coach: Mike Schaeffer, Assistant Coach D. Bishop
The players are: Chazity Counts 7th Grade, Gracen Hester 7th Grade, Jessica Morris 7th Grade, Merical Cromer 7th Grade, Callie Blanchard 8th Grade, Camryn Long 7th Grade, Mary Helen Alford 7th Grade, Cassi Ruff 7th Grade, Taylor Swygert 7th Grade, Katie Coker 7th Grade, Alex Fulmer 8th Grade, Amanda Hollowell 7th Grade, Charlsy Traylor 8th Grade.
Season Highlights:
Defeated Saluda Middle School on the road with only five players dressed out because of the Junior Beta Club state convention.
Coach Schaeffer collected his 32nd win in middle school girls basketball at MCMS. This is the most wins for any girls coach in program history since 1979.
Charlsy Traylor had 11 rebounds in the game against Saluda Middle. The top three rebounding games in girls basketball in the school’s history.
Boys basketball, 7-3
Head Coach: Zeb Reid, Assistant Coach, D. Bishop
The players are: Corey Stone 8th Grade, Jalen Bates-Caldwell 7th Grade, Jeb Fulmer 7th Grade, Keenan Boland 8th Grade, Cade Ruff 7th Grade, Drew Cromer 8th Grade, Jevon Boyd 8th Grade, Jaterran Wise 8th Grade, R.J. Wadsworth 8th Grade, Zachary Hentz 8th Grade, Iyon Thompson 8th Grade, Cornelius Gallman 8th Grade, Michael Wagner 8th Grade.
Season Highlights:
The third most wins in a season in the programs 34 year history.
MCMS basketball team record: 52 three pointers made in 10 games.
Zachary Hentz had 17 rebounds in a game against Saluda Middle setting the school record for rebounds in a game.
Six different players scored in double figures at least one time over the course of the season.
