KIAWAH ISLAND — The Newberry Wolves shot a 319 in Tuesday’s final round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate to finish in 19th out of 32 teams as one of only two non-Division I teams in the event.

Newberry finished the tournament with a three-day score of 315-318-319=952 (+88).

Lisa Brandl earned her fourth top 15 and fifth top 20 finish of the season, tying for 13th place with a 10-over par 226 after shooting a 6-over par 78 in the final round on Tuesday.

Eline Askeland tied for 82nd in the tournament with a 23-over par 239 in the event, her lowest 54-hole score of the season. Julia Daneshfar tied for 114th with a 54-hole season low of 30-over par 246, while Korey Coleman and Natalia Perez tied for 144th with 39-over par 255.

Newberry finished fifth of the seven South Carolina teams in the tournament behind second place College of Charleston (+38, 902), 13th place Winthrop (+71, 935), 15th place Wofford (+79, 943) and 17th place Charleston Southern (+80, 944). The Wolves were ahead of 22nd place Presbyterian (+101, 965) and 30th place The Citadel (+153, 1017).

The 19th place finish is Newberry’s second best in three appearances at the Division I event as the Scarlet and Gray finished 24th in 2012 and 13th in 2011.

The Wolves return to action on March 18 and March 19 in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Course in Sevierville, Tenn. This tournament will be an important preview, as it is held on the same course as the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in April.
