NEWBERRY — The City of Newberry will hold its first “Dine Around Town” event today in downtown Newberry.

The event, which begins at 6 p.m., is a progressive dining event that will feature food from downtown Newberry.

Mary Alex Kopp, the events coordinator for the City of Newberry, helped develop the event with two members of her staff. They asked downtown restaurants if they would like to take part. The event is meant to “encourage businesses and allow for people to get their foot in the door,” said Kopp.

“Dine Around Town” will feature two casual dining menus and two fine dining menus. Participants will begin with an appetizer at one restaurant, walk to another restaurant for soup and salad, go to a third restaurant for the entree, and finish with dessert at a fourth restaurant.

Four restaurants – The Flying Pie, The Cabana Cafe, The Grille on Main and Steven W’s – will take part, with each serving one segment of the meal in rotation. Each restaurant is able to choose what it wants to serve for a particular course.

Ticket holders will also be able to enjoy happy hour and after-dinner drink specials at Half Full and Pour Richard’s. Cathy’s Cakery will also give each ticket holder a gift.

Tickets for the casual menus, available at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., are $40 per person. Tickets for the fine dining menus, available at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., are $60 per person. The deadline for ticket purchases is Wednesday.

According to Kopp, if “Dine Around Town” goes well, it might become an annual event.

“This will be a good way for businesses to get more business,” she said.
