NEWBERRY — Friday marks two years since Newberry County made the decision to sell Springfield Place and J. F. Hawkins to Prestige Healthcare.
The biggest benefit has been to the residents they serve. Shortly after buying the facilities, Prestige Healthcare invested nearly $1 million into the facilities.
Most of the capital improvements were focused at J.F. Hawkins. The improvements included a remodeled interior and an expanded rehabilitation gym to better accommodate short term rehab residents.
J.F. Hawkins was advanced from a two star facility to a four star facility based on the CMS Nursing Home Compare: Five Star Ratings of Nursing Homes.
Along with the improvements in their five star rating and their DHEC annual surveys, J.F. Hawkins and Springfield Place have also recently applied for the Bronze Award presented by the American Healthcare Association and the National Center for Assisted Living.
“We have come a long way over the past two years and we are still going strong,” said Executive Director Kathy Montgomery. “We have an excellent management team here and we all feel very passionately about our residents and providing them the highest quality of care. This is their home and we are just blessed to be able to work here and be with them.”
Springfield Place and J.F. Hawkins have taken a lead role in community health care. For the past two years they have partnered with Newberry County Memorial Hospital and WKDK in a health fair. The planning for next fall’s third annual community health fair will begin this summer.
Springfield Place and J.F. Hawkins is Newberry County’s only Continuing Care Retirement Community and has apartments, patio homes, cottages, assisted living and skilled nursing care.
