NEWBERRY — Ever wanted to be in radio? Love old radio dramas? Not a huge fan of memorizing a lot of dialogue and blocking?

The Newberry Community Players will hold auditions in February for a live reenactment of original “Flash Gordon” radio scripts.

Open auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and Feb. 18 at The Ritz Theater, 1511 Main St. in Newberry.

This reader’s theater cast will play radio announcers creating a live broadcast of these classic tales of space adventure.

Director Jaime Siqueiros stated,

“Readers theater is how I got back into theater,” said director Jaime Siqueiros. “It takes the pressure off of memorizing every line and helps you really delve into your character. It also means a shorter rehearsal schedule, which also makes it a great chance for someone who has always wanted to participate in community theater to get involved.”

Anyone interested in playing a role in the four “Flash Gordon” radio scripts that will be featured should come to one of the audition nights or call 515-490-9556 for more information.

Siqueiros is also looking for a tech crew who can help recreate the radio sound effects.

The performances are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 12 and April 19 and 3 p.m. April 13 and April 20 at The Ritz Theater.
