ROCK HILL — The Newberry Wolves’ baseball team has been ranked sixth in the annual preseason poll of the coaches of the South Atlantic Conference, which was released Tuesday.

Newberry’s Wesley Camp was named a preseason second team All-SAC selection as an outfielder.

As a freshman in 2012, Camp hit .310 with 48 hits, 29 runs scored and 11 RBIs. He had a .381 on-base percentage. He also led the team and finished third in the conference with 21 stolen bases. On the mound, Camp had a 3-4 record in 11 appearances with a 4.64 ERA in 64 innings pitched with 42 strikeouts to only 21 walks.

Newberry finished sixth in the league last season with a 20-31 overall record and 12-15 conference mark. This year’s poll is nearly a mirror of the 2012 conference finish. Tusculum and Catawba are tied for first in the poll with 77 points each and split the first place votes down the middle with five apiece.

Newberry received 45 points in the poll and are just one point behind Carson-Newman in the fifth spot.
