AIKEN — Russell O’Neal “Rusty” Culbertson II entered the Church Triumphant on Jan. 26, 2013.

Mr. Culbertson was born on July 30, 1946, to the late Russell Culbertson and Virginia Culbertson of Newberry. Prior to graduating from Newberry High School he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Following high school he graduated from Gardner Webb University and Georgia Southern University where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. He began his teaching career in Beaufort and after relocating to Aiken in 1972, he was a beloved teacher and coach at Kennedy Middle School, South Aiken High School and Aiken Preparatory School.

He is survived by his best friend and wife of 43 years, Bonnie Rapp Culbertson, a daughter, Staci Mims (Stephen) of Lexington, a son, Trey Culbertson (Gina) of Aiken, four cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Mary-Margaret, Mia and Luka, his mother, Virginia of Newberry and his sister Tuta of Fountain Inn, and of course his precious dogs, Smitty and Valentine.

Rusty loved spending time with his family, especially their yearly trips to Fripp Island. He enjoyed Newberry College football and USC-Aiken basketball games.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Summer Memorial Lutheran Church, Newberry, with the Rev. David Coffman officiating. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rob Harrington, Jeff Priest, Michael Brown, Jeff Agges, Tom Rapp, Roy Starks, and Edward Rogers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Aiken Prep basketball team.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., 924 Hayne Ave., Aken, SC.
