NEWBERRY — Evelyn Smith Crumpton, 80, of 1835 Radio St., Newberry died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at her residence.

Born on Oct. 24, 1932, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Olin Smith and the late Georgia Mae Kunkle Smith Wilson.

Mrs. Crumpton was an active member of College Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Mary Warren Sunday school class and the Women’s Missionary Union.

She is the survived by her husband of 60 years, David L. Crumpton of the residence; daughters, Kitty (Al) Roberts of Seneca, Deborah Lynn Crumpton of Newberry and Janie Scarboro of Ninety Six; sons, Olin L. (Robbie) Crumpton of Newberry and George (Lori) Crumpton of Spartanburg; sisters, Grace Thomas and Jean (Jessie) Jackson, both of Lexington, Ruth Wilson of Pomaria and Rita (M.C.) Yarborough of Newberry; brother, John (Ann) Smith of Newberry; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Brenda Smith of Newberry and a stepsister, Mary Brantley of Columbia.

She was predeceased by her brother, James O. Smith and her stepfather, R. C. Wilson.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2012 at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Chad Ashby and Chaplain Bill Ebener. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be John Riffey, Lee Sparks, Seth Roberts, Jeremy Sorber, Jacob Sorber, Jimmy Wilson, Joey Smith, Dustin Smith and Ashley Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Franklin, Richard Crumpton, Vernon Koon, Bobby Reynolds, deacons of College Street Baptist Church, members of the Mary Warren Sunday School Class and Hospice Care of Tri-County.
