School Board praises 2 MC students

On Nov. 3 two Mid-Carolina Middle School sixth-grade students competed in the State Education Day in Florence. This was a statewide event sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club. Christy Webb placed first in the visual arts competition. She had one hour to draw a new logo for the Boys and Girls Club using pencil and paper only. Webb was recognized for her first place finish at Monday night’s school board meeting. She is shown with Bennie Bennett, Newberry County School District’s Superintendent.

On Nov. 3 two Mid-Carolina Middle School sixth-grade students competed in the State Education Day in Florence. This was a statewide event sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club. Georgia Summer placed first in the U.S. History competition. She was given an initial timed test at school and then she was selected at the state level. She was given a second timed test competing against students her age and older and she placed first. She also competed in an art competition through the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands. Her artwork was selected to represent the Boys and Girls Club out of 2,500 members. Summer’s artwork will be displayed on a published thank you card which was given to every Turkey Day Run participant on Thanksgiving Day. Summer was recognized at Monday night’s school board meeting.
