WHITMIRE — The Town of Whitmire concluded the Christmas parades in the county on Saturday with their parade on Main Street.

The Whitmire Jaycees brought together the town’s annual Christmas parade with the only parade in the county in which candy may be thrown from floats.

Children scooped up candies into their pockets while some brought bags to fill with goodies.

The parade began at noon and ran for about half an hour with Santa bringing up the end. In between there was the Sheriff’s department, law enforcement and fire and rescue, the Mayor-elect Billy Hollingsworth and other elected officials.

The Whitmire Community marching band and Newberry JROTC marched in step while First Baptist Church of Whitmire, Roche Pharmacy, the Shriners and many others participated bringing cheer to Whitmire during the Christmas season.

In the Whitmire parade, there are no winners selected.
