Newberry Academy swept four games from Covenant Christian Tuesday night at the Eagles’ gym.

The middle school girls’ team won the first match up 23–10, led by Darby Dail with seven points.

The middle school boys’ team won 44–18, with Landen York leading the way with 20 points.

In the varsity games, the Lady Eagles won 36–15, and the varsity boys won 63–37.

For the varsity girls, the offense took a little while to get going, and the home team held a slim 7–4 lead after the first period. In the second period, Emily Senn and Kaitlyn Nobles scored six points each as the Lady Eagles turned up the defensive pressure and created turnovers. Newberry took a 24–4 lead into the half, and was never challenged again.

Senn led all scorers with 13 points for the night, followed by Nobles with six points.

Emma Lindsay and Andie Getz each scored five points, while Carman Franklin, Rachel Franklin, and Charlotte Carulli each added two points. Amanda Crayne added a point.

The varsity boys’ team won with sound defense and took advantage of mismatches. The first period was a snapshot of the game, as the Eagles pulled away 19–10.

In the second period, Justin Suber did most of the work, scoring eight of the teams 14 points.

The Eagle’s defense shut down the visiting team, only allowing six points.

The 33–16 lead blossomed after the half into a rout, as Suber continued scoring at will, adding another eight points to his game-leading total of 22 points.

The home team began substituting heavily once the lead passed 30 points, and the Eagles coasted to another region win.

Dylan Skipper added 12 points for the Eagles, followed by Ryan Smith with 10 and CJ Connelly with eight points.

Other Eagles to score included Luke Carraway with four points, Alex Cole and two others (Jacob Epting, Jake Buzhardt) with two points, and Sean Blanton added a point.

The Eagles take on region foe Wardlaw on Friday night.
