NEWBERRY — Ms. Bennie Mae Summers, 56, of 216 Cannon St., Newberry, died Monday at her residence.

Born in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late Johnnie Mae Summers.

She was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and served on the usher board and in the choir. She was president of the Cannontown Community Foundation and a member of the Women’s Aide Society #50.

She retired from Louis Rich Company after 35 years of services.

Surviving are two daughters, Juquetta Summers-Dodson (Lorenzo) of Newberry and Sadiyyah Summers of Cayce-West Columbia; stepfather, Charles Sligh (Betty) of Landover Md.; step-grandmother, Mrs. Bernice Sligh of Newberry; sisters, Jacqueline Nance of Charlotte, N.C., Brenda Faye Douglas of Newberry, Brenetta Dickerson (Fred) of Greenwood and Helen Summers of Brooklyn, N. Y.; godmother Mable Davidson of Newberry; nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Newberry. Burial will follow in Werts Cemetery.
