NEWBERRY — As the high school basketball season tips off, one local player is looking forward to playing college ball next year.

Kaheem Praylow signed on Tuesday to travel just down the road to play basketball at Newberry College.

The Newberry High senior has averaged 11.9 points a game and has an average of 9.6 rebounds a game.

He also averages 2.6 steals a game.

“He has played varsity his freshman, sophomore, junior and senior year,” said Newberry High basketball coach and athletic director Chad Cary. “He has started in 73 of 81 games throughout his career. Kaheem is a great young man and his best basketball is ahead of him.”

For Praylow, who made All-Region in 2011 and 2012, the transition between Newberry High and College should be easy as the Newberry High team patterns their play after the college’s basketball team.

“He knows the system and can play,” said Cary.

Praylow said in ways the decision to Newberry was easy in that he has grown up around the Newberry College program and it will keep him close to home and his family.

The Newberry High senior plans to study sports medicine or business.
