he search for the man who walked away from a residential care facility in Prosperity on Monday ended just before noon on Wednesday.

On Monday afternoon around 5 p.m., Christopher Godbee walked away from South Side residential care center. Deputies and various public safety agencies searched the area using patrols, bloodhounds, ground searches, and a helicopter. Despite hours of searching, Godbee was not located.

Investigators spent much of the day on Tuesday following up with searches and interviewing neighbors and family in an attempt to locate Godbee still without success. The heavy cloud cover of yesterday prevented the officers from using a helicopter in the search.

Godbee was located in a wooded area near the residential care facility last Wednesday morning.

Officers say he appeared safe and uninjured, but was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Sheriff Lee Foster and the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who assisted in the search and “for those who lifted up thoughts and prayers for both Mr. Godbee, his family, and those searching for him.”

Foster also thanked all the volunteer public safety personnel who assisted in the search.
