School board to have 2 female members

NEWBERRY — Incumbent Lucy Anne Meetze and newcomer Jessie Reeder will be added to the Newberry County School Board in January for Districts 3 and 6, respectively.

Board member and incumbent Gregg Taylor for District 6 will step down at the end of his term.

Meetze beat out Connelly by 335 votes for District 3. She garnered 1,097 votes while Connelly garnered 762 votes.

“I would just like to thank everyone who supported me today and all of the many friends who were working so hard to help me, especially my husband Mike,” said Meetze.

As for District 6, Reeder said, “I just want to thank the people of Newberry County for putting their trust in me and I’m going to live up to my responsibilities, especially for District 6.”

Reeder beat out Taylor by 532 votes garnering 1,114 total votes. Taylor got 582 votes.

Four board seats were open but only two faced opposition.

The two unopposed members, Ike Bledsoe and chairman Jody Hamm, are in District 1 and District 4 respectively and will continue the next four years.

Bledsoe is in District 1 and Hamm is in District 4.
