SILVERSTREET — As a cool breeze blows over Newberry County, once again many residents will celebrate at a oyster roast to benefit the Newberry Opera House Guild.

The pond side function of the guild is to support the Opera House and to raise funds to help with the daily operations.

One of the biggest fund raisers the guild has is its annual oyster roast which will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Waldrop Farm on Spearman Road in Newberry.

This year in addition to the oysters from Bowen’s Island, other foods such as turkey stew and rice, hors d’oeuvres, slaw and baked beans will be served.

There will also be a wide selection of desserts made by guild members along with bread.

Also the event includes wine, beer, coffee and other beverages.

In addition to the oysters and fellowship, this year Doug and Bunny Williams will provide live music for the fall event.

This event is sponsored by the Newberry Opera House Guild.

Tickets are $40 and are available from the Newberry Opera House, from NOH Guild Members and will be sold at the oyster roast.

The Waldrop pond is located between Belfast Road and Highway 34 near Reuben Elementary in the Silverstreet area of the county.

Call the box office at 276-6264 or visit online at www.newberryoperahouse.com for tickets.
