Eagles fly to third at state meet

The Newberry Academy Cross Country team reached new heights on Saturday, as the boys’ team took home third place in the SCISA State Cross Country Meet.

The Eagles girls’ team was comprised of one runner, Natashia Ruff, who ran a personal best time of 27:49.93.

In the boys’ race, the top five runners for Newberry Academy scored points for their school, and each runner put up a personal best time.

The first to cross the finish line for the Eagles was Sean Blanton, with a time of 20:11.23.

The second runner to finish was senior Alex Cole, with a time of 21:51.33.

The next runner for Newberry was seventh-grader, McCallum Senn, who finished with a time of 22:50.44.

The fourth best runner for the Academy was the team’s other senior, Jake Buzhardt, with a time of 23:00.54.

The fifth runner to place for the Eagles was another seventh-grader, Matthew Cole, with a time of 25:41.22.

Two other runners competed for Newberry Academy. R

euben Sutton finished with a time of 26:58.84, and Tabb French finished with a time of 28:11.82.

The strong showing at this year’s state meet and the team’s youth point toward a bright future for cross country at Newberry Academy.
