NEWBERRY — A person has been charged in a September robbery outside of a Newberry bank.

Jared Shemaiah Jones, 20, of Columbia, was arrested and charged last week by Newberry police with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was released from jail on bond.

Around 4 p.m. on Sept. 16, a person reported they were making a deposit for a business at the Wells Fargo night deposit box on Boyce Street in downtown Newberry when they were robbed, according to Newberry Police Captain Kevin Atkins.

Atkins said additional arrests are possible.

Atkins reminds businesses that officers are available to provide an escort from the businesses in the city to banks for employees making deposits.

The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Newberry police at 321-1010.
