SILVERSTREET — Fred Friend O’Mara, 72, died peacefully at home in Silverstreet on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Fred was born on May 31, 1940 in Niagara Falls, N.Y. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bates O’Mara and graduated from Denison University. He worked for Union Carbide until he retired and moved to Silverstreet in 1991.

Visitation will take place at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, from 6 until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Central United Methodist Church in Newberry at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.

Since Fred had such a love for animals, the family suggests memorials can be made to the Newberry County Humane Society, P. O. Box 485, Newberry, SC 29108.
