NEWBERRY — An adopted puppy from the Newberry County Animal Shelter has swept the hearts of voters.

Petunia won the Newberry Observer’s Cutest Pets Contest with 1,877 votes, garnering the top title.

Megan Lindler’s one-year-old pup won the contest since Lindler says she “put it on Facebook and told all my friends to vote.”

“She is a beagle, chihauhau mix,” explains Lindler, who is a North Greenville University sophomore.

In addition to nabbing the top title, Lindler and Petunia also have won $250 in the contest sponsored by Chapin Pet Lodge.

The pet lodge was the top sponsor for the contest and they were also the top sponsor last year which is when the contest began.

In fact, Lindler says that she decided to enter Petunia because last year, another of her family’s pets came in second.

Lindler’s family has three dogs and two cats but Petunia is Lindler’s girl.

A key to winning is hyping it up with friends, as Lindler has done.

She also enjoys dressing up pixie sized Petunia in outfits.

“She gets dressed for the seasons,” says Lindler.

When Lindler met with Chapin Pet Lodge, Petunia had on a leopard print cover with pink, of course.

With the fall and winter holidays approaching, Petunia will be decked out in a number of attire.
