The Whitmire Wolverines hosted the McCormick Chiefs on Friday night, and lost 46-0.
However, the night was about more than the game as the Wolverines welcomed home alumni and celebrated homecoming.
The home town crowd was hopeful for a victory, but most seemed to enjoy the evening despite the lopsided score.
During half-time, Hydea Chick was named homecoming queen.
The game itself was dominated by the Chiefs, as they ran the score to 33-0 by the end of the first quarter.
Whitmire had a few bright spots, like the hard-nosed running of Sam Miller. The Wolverine defense played better in the second-half, despite liberal substitutions by both teams.
The home team threatened to score in the fourth quarter, with possessions deep in McCormick territory, but Whitmire was unable to score.
Passes to Rondera Lindler and West Jenkins just missed in the end zone. Whitmire’s record stands at 0–4.
Their next game is at Dixie, which also is 0–4 on the year.
