The Newberry Academy kindergarten started off its new year with a new director who has a familiar face.

Sharon Senn, who is in her sixth year teaching five-year old kindergarten at the academy, became kindergarten director this summer upon the retirement of Janet Paysinger. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Senn said she’s excited about the new school year.

“We’re off to a great start with enthusiastic children and supportive parents,” she said. “Our theme for the kindergarten year is Building for the Future. We are focusing on building strong foundations in reading, language and math, while emphasizing social skills, such as good manners.”

“The academy kindergarten has a long tradition as an outstanding kindergarten,” continued Senn. “Teachers Deidra Bartley, Heidi Cole and I are proud to continue that tradition.”
