Two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel is one of Australia’s most respected musicians, and known for his amazing showmanship returns to the Opera House on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
The legendary guitarist has a professional career that spans five decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world.
Emmanuel is a true international star just returned from a much heralded tour of Asia with sold-out shows in Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and throughout China.
Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try this “fingerpicker” style as a child. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel’s biggest fans.
In the May 2008 and 2010 issues of Guitar Player Magazine, he was named as “Best Acoustic Guitarist” in their readers’ poll.
Throughout his career he has played with many notable artists including Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, Sir George Martin, Air Supply, Denver, Tina Turner, Les Paul, Edgar Cruz and Doc Watson.
“ Blazing”, “flawless”, and “spectacular” are how you describe his performances – it’s what has taken him from the wild Down Under to the world’s most charismatic, soulful and technically brilliant fingerstyle guitar player.
His unique “finger style” is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass, and drum parts, Emmanuel plays all that – at once – and on one guitar.
