There is a good flow of economic development prospects looking at the area and Newberry County.
There are 54 active economic development projects in the region, according to Stephen Roddey with the S.C. Central Alliance.
Of those, 26 are new companies looking at moving into the area.
Most of the prospects are in manufacturing or distribution or looking for office space.
While the biggest demand is for existing buildings to get the company up and running quickly, Roddy says more companies are looking at sites to build on compared to the request for sites a year ago.
In Newberry County there are four potential projects with one an expansion.
There also has been interest shown in the Renfro building in Whitmire and at the Mid-Carolina Commerce Park on Highway 773 at I-26.
The new companies could bring in $74 million in investments and 270 new jobs.
The expansion could bring a $2.5 million or more investment and 50 jobs to the county.
But Roddy warns the projects are all in the initial phases.
He also said that Kraft Foods in Newberry would be featured in an upcoming marketing piece that will be distributed around the world.
