The Town of Prosperity is looking to purchase a couple of new items that will benefit the town overall.

On Tuesday, the town council approved to proceed with a resolution for the financing of a new police car and a tractor and bush hog through BB&T.

All council members were in favor of this resolution considering that they were able to secure a fixed loan with an interest rate of 2.55 percent in which they have five years to pay off.

While the town is approved up to $60,000 for the purchases, if the vehicles cost less they would only be financed for the lesser amount.

The town has yet to find an appropriate vehicle which suits the needs of the police department and utility department but they are actively looking.

Specifically, the Prosperity Police is looking for something in which all of their equipment will be satisfied as there is equipment that the officers must have in the vehicle.

The town has budgeted between $30-35,000 for a new police car.

As for the utility tractor, the town is in need of one because a couple of years ago, they lost one due to some internal failures according to public works director Ed West.

The utility department is looking for something that can handle the sewer easements, which is their number one need. There are other smaller needs as well as seasonal needs that are being considered as well.

The items were budgeted by the town for this fiscal year.

The town decided to proceed because of the positive opportunity from the bank and also the need.

The town is looking to discuss more information on potential purchases at the next regularly scheduled town council meeting.
