The Newberry College wrestling squad has been on a great streak in dual meets in preparation for the Super Region meet in February, and several Wolves are featured in the NCAA’s rankings of the most dominant wrestlers.
In the first such ranking of the season, Deral Brown (Elgin) at 149-pounds and Jake Elkins (Trussville, Ala.) at heavyweight are ranked fourth and fifth nationally in the “most dominant” category. St. Cloud State’s Tad Merritt leads the rankings.
BJ Young (Jackson, N.J.) is tied for sixth in the nation for most pinfalls with 10 such victories this season, while Matt Oliver (Toms River, N.J.) is tied for 10th nationally for most technical falls at three.
