NEWBERRY — The Newberry Academy Eagles will travel about two hours to Augusta, Ga., tonight to play the Curtis Baptist High School Crusaders in a game that was initially forfeited by the Crusaders.
“They originally did not have enough kids to play. They got several new families during the summer and now have enough to play,” said Eagles Head Coach Benji Sease.
This will be the first game of the season for the Eagles, but the second for the Crusaders who are overall 0-1 after losing to the Providence HomeSchool 42-8.
During practice this week, the Eagles have been working to get more physical, and used up some time this week with contact drills, according to Sease.
This will be the first time the Eagles and the Crusaders have played each other. The biggest challenge this game presents to the Eagles is the unknown.
“We do not know a lot about them. They have a new coach and last year played 11-man football,” Sease said.
Sease added that this game will give him the opportunity to see how much the team has improved since their last game last year.
During the game the Eagles are going to try to stop or slow down the run.
“We believe if we can make a team one dimensional it increases our chance to win,” Sease said.
The starting players for this game will be Michael Shaw, Ryan Hyatt, Hunter Taylor, Jimmy Franklin, Javon Gallman, Tabb French, Landen York and Dillon Morris on defense and Hunter Taylor, Jimmy Franklin, Bryce Horn, Tyrese Taylor, Daniel Bannister, Tabb French, Landen York and Dillon Morris on offense.
