NEWBERRY — Newberry College head men’s basketball coach has announced the signing of Clinton JC’s Dhonte Ford to join the Wolves for the 2015-16 season.

Ford was a first team NJCAA All-Region X point guard for the Clinton JC Golden Bears as a sophomore, averaging 12.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game with a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. He had two double-doubles and seven games of over 20 points.

The 6-foot point guard amassed over 300 assists in his junior college career had a game of 24 points, seven assists and four rebounds against Cape Fear CC. He also had a 24 points, six assists and four rebounds against both USC Salkehatchie and Denmark Tech. As a freshman he averaged 9.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

Ford hails from Oxon Hill, Md., and graduated from Lackey HS. At Clinton, he was named the team MVP and was on the Dean’s List, earning his associate’s degree this May.

“We are excited to add Dhonte to our veteran team,” said Davis. “He is a competitor who really works on his game, sees the floor well and can score the basketball. Dhonte is a guard who understands rebounding, which is so important in our four- or five-guard system. He is from just outside of Washington, D.C., and both Newberry College and my teams at Pfeiffer seemed to do well when we had some guys from the D.C.-Baltimore area.”
