ROCK HILL — Three Newberry College women’s tennis players earned first team all-South Atlantic Conference honors, as the league office announced the annual conference awards Wednesday.
Elizabeth Williamson earned first team all-SAC honors for her singles play, while the duo of Amanda Carrillo and Vanessa Ortiz earned first team all-SAC honors in doubles action.
Williamson, a junior from Canterbury, New Zealand, earns all-SAC honors for the second time after second team honors in 2015. Williamson racked up a 19-2 record in singles action, all at the No. 1 singles position. She also earned 19 wins in doubles action for 38 wins in total this season.
Ortiz, a senior from Cochabamba, Bolivia, and Carrillo, a sophomore from Almeria, Spain, repeat as an all-SAC doubles team after second team honors in 2015. The duo put together a 14-5 record at No. 1 doubles for the Wolves this year with a 7-3 in South Atlantic Conference action.
Carrillo also earned honorable mention to the all-conference list in singles action with a 19-1 singles mark this season, including a 10-1 mark in SAC action.
The Wolves start the South Atlantic Conference Tournament on Thursday as the fourth seed against fifth-seeded Lincoln Memorial at 9 a.m. in Brevard, N.C.
