DUE WEST — The Newberry College women’s tennis team saw a six-match winning streak snapped Monday afternoon with a 6-3 loss at Erskine.
Newberry falls to 11-2 overall with the defeat heading into a tough stretch with four matches in five days, starting with a South Atlantic Conference match against No. 47 Tusculum on Thursday afternoon at home.
Elizabeth Williamson was a bright spot in the Wolves’ lineup with wins at both No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles. She teamed up with Tara Lamers for an 8-6 doubles win, then took a 7-6, 6-2 win over Miranda Guthrie in singles action to stay undefeated at 13-0 on the year.
Also staying undefeated at 13-0 on the season is Amanda Carrillo, who picked up Newberry’s other point on the day with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles.
The Wolves saw Lamers drop a three-set match at No. 4 singles and an 8-4 loss at No. 1 doubles was another tight loss that could have swung the dual in Newberry’s favor.
