NEWBERRY — The Newberry High School boys used a 35 to 17 point run in the second quarter to beat Pelion High School 94-63 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs improved to 11-10 on the season and 6-5 in regional play.

Despite eight different Bulldogs scoring in the opening stanza, not a single one saw more than two points fall in as Newberry led 17-16 after the opening eight minutes.

Zy Riley started the momentum swing for Newberry, grabbing 10 of his 20 points on the night during the second quarter.

Newberry had a 29-point lead after the third quarter and all but one Bulldog scored during the game.

Along with Riley’s 20 points, Tyriq Goodman scored 19 while Bryton Downing saw 12 points fall in.

Terrell Rogers and Chris Neal each scored eight points, Jaleel Gilliam had seven, while Ocyrus Chaplin and P.J. Wright scored six points apiece.

Robert Houston scored four points while the Newberry scoring ended with the two points of both Derrick Scurry and Darius York.

Newberry honored its seniors and was presented with a Super Bowl golden football by the NFL.

The commemorative football is in memory of Richard Sligh, a Newberry High graduate who played in Super Bowl II with the Oakland Raiders.
