DUE WEST — The Newberry Wolves’ men’s tennis team battled through chilly temperatures and a rain delay to take a 7-2 win over the Erskine Flying Fleet at the Erskine Courts on Monday.

Newberry moves to 8-1 on the season entering Wednesday’s home South Atlantic Conference dual vs. Carson-Newman.

The Wolves started the dual by taking two of three doubles matches. “Los Fernandos” – Fernando Espana and Fernando Tous – took an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and Alejandro Feliciano and Angel Pizarro cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

Espana took a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Jordan Monosky and Jacob Svantesson suffered a rare loss at doubles, but they both picked up wins in singles action to put two points on the board. Monosky won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Svantesson took a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3.

Wins by Feliciano in a tiebreak at No. 5 singles and an easy 6-0, 6-1 win by Richard Zeh at No. 6 wrapped up the regional win.
