NEWBERRY — After earning regional wrestler of the week honors Tuesday, Newberry College sophomore 133 lbs. wrestler Jordan Simpson has been named the National Wrestler of the Week, as announced by D2Wrestle.com Thursday.

Simpson, a sophomore from Oxford, Ala., went 4-0 at the Super Region II Duals this weekend to lead the Wolves to four wins.

In the opening match of the weekend against Ashland, the sophomore upset the top-ranked wrestler in the region with a fall at the 4:23 mark. In Friday’s second match, he pinned Emmanuel’s Dylan Carlile in the second period to lead Newberry to a conference win.

On Saturday, he took a 5-3 decision over Anderson’s Derek Bohle, then rolled to a 14-1 major decision over No. 14 Findlay’s Schuyler Phillips.
