JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman (11-2 overall, 7-1 SAC) sweeps Newberry College (6-7 overall, 2-6 South Atlantic Conference) 3-0 with scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-16.

The Wolves have now lost five in a row mid-way through the season. Carson-Newman and Newberry were tight in the opening set. Tied at 11 all, Carson-Newman went on a run to take a 15-11 lead. The Wolves bounced back with a kill from Madison Darby-McClur to cut the lead to three (23-20). The Wolves would score two more points but fell short losing 25-22.

The second set started with Carson-Newman jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The Wolves were down 10-3 when a block from Darby-McClur and Samantha De Jong got the team going to pull within one.

The Wolves took the lead 19-18 but a kill by Sara Fairley put a stop to the Wolves run and gave Carson-Newman the 20-19 lead. The Wolves would tie the set at 23 but were stopped right there as Carson-Newman would take the set with a score of 25-23.

The third set started out as a see-saw match with each team taking the lead. Carson-Newman wouldn’t let the Wolves get to far ahead with the lead as they bounced back and went on a run and scored 14 points while only giving up eight to take the third set 25-16.

The Wolves were led by junior outside hitter Logan Hayward who had 10 kills on 42 attempts and added 11 digs to give her a double-double. Maggie Marsh tallied 24 assists to add to her total of 460 on the year. Freshman Kensley Jordan added 17 digs to her team leading total 269.

Carson-Newman was led by Molly Locke with 21 kills on 41 attempts giving her a .439 hitting percentage and added 11 digs to give her a double-double. Anna Patton also had a double-double with 33 assists and 13 digs while Sara Fairley added her own double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
