WOODRUFF — The Mid-Carolina Rebels hit the road to Woodruff High School on April 22 following two road wins that helped them sew up the Region III baseball title with an 8-1 region record but weren’t able to bring home a win, dropping the game 4-3.

It was the final regular season game for the Rebels. The Rebels began playoffs at home Tuesday against Fairfield Central. Results were not available at press time.

Saturday’s game was a close game with neither team scoring in the first five innings. The Rebels scored first with two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Saturday’s loss was a heartbreaker for the Rebels, as they lost a three-run lead in the bottom of the seventh due to two errors, two walks, two sacrifice bunts, and a wild pitch.

Jeb Fulmer, who took the loss, pitched an excellent game for six and one-third innings, allowing only one walk and one earned run. Wesley Livingston pitched two-thirds in the seventh, finishing the game.

Preston Farmer completed the battery for the Rebels. Leading hitters were Bryce Medlock and Farmer with one RBI each while Corey Stone had two hits.

On April 20, the Rebels traveled to Broome High School in Spartanburg and defeated Broome 9-3. This game gave the Rebels the regional championship and made them eligible to play in the Class AAA playoffs to determine the state champion.

The Rebels had 13 hits compared to six for Broome.

Bryce Medlock, Cade Ruff, Corey Stone, Jonathan Bickley and Drew Cromer each had two hits for the Rebels. Bickley had four RBI’s and Stone had two. Al Moore blasted a home run over the left field wall in his only at bat in the seventh inning for the Rebels’ final run.

Stone was the winning pitcher, pitching five innings, striking out six, while walking five. Ruff came in as the closer and pitched the final two innings, striking out one and walking two. Completing the batting was Preston Farmer, catching all seven innings.

Broome’s pitcher hurled all seven innings, yielding 13 hits, striking out eight and walking two, with Broome’s catcher handling all seven innings.

On April 18, the Rebels traveled to Newberry and defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 7-3. The Rebels scored two runs in the third, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The Bulldogs countered with only one run in the second and two runs in the sixth.

The winning pitcher was Jonathon Bickley, pitching six innings, with Cade Ruff pitching the final inning. Bickley and Ruff combined only allowed six hits, striking out five, and walking only three3. Catching for both pitchers was Preston Farmer.

The Bulldogs two pitchers allowed nine hits, walking five, and striking out three. Alec Blackmon handled the catching duties for the Bulldogs and also had a hit and scored one of their three runs.

John Steven Trammell led all hitters with a long triple to center, a double, and a walk, with Bickley and Corey Stone also having two hits. Ruff knocked in three runs and Stone knocked in two.
