NEWBERRY – Haley Simonds was named Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week and Devon Morrison was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 17-23.

Simonds had a .467 batting average and 1.333 slugging percentage after launching three home runs against Lincoln Memorial. Simonds collected eight RBIs and posted a .500 on-base percentage.

She also notched her first win of the season in the circle, tossing 3.0 innings in Newberry’s 11-10 comeback victory over Coker. The award marks her first Player of the Week honor this season and the first Newberry player to be honored as Player of the Week this year.

Morrison earned two complete game victories and a save to help Newberry to a 4-0 week and clinch the third spot in the upcoming SAC Championship. She pitched 14.0 innings, recording a 1.50 ERA. She allowed only three earned runs over those three contests and also collected six strikeouts.

Morrison is third in the SAC with an 18-5 overall record. The honor is her third Pitcher of the Week award this season.

Newberry will face Wingate on Thursday in the opening round of the SAC Championship at 10 a.m.
