ROCK HILL — The Newberry College men’s tennis team’s season came to an end on Friday morning as the fifth-seeded Wolves fell 5-1 to top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte in a South Atlantic Conference Championship semifinal matchup at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.

The Wolves, who’ve reached the SAC Tournament for the seventh straight year, finish their season 17-7 overall.

Queens (15-1) won all three doubles matches over the Wolves to begin play by scores of 8-4, 8-6, and 8-6, respectively.

Newberry earned a point at No. 1 singles, as Edison Ambarzumjan closed out his stellar freshman season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jules Athalis.

The Royals needed just two wins in singles play to clinch the match and they came first from Agustin Aran Martin at No. 3 over Nikhil Mannepalli 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 2 as Paolo Bompieri defeated Jordan Monosky 7-5, 6-2. Matches at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles went unfinished.
