NEWBERRY — Newberry has moved up to seventh in Division II in the latest Golfstat rankings, the primary metric by which teams are selected to compete into the Division II Men’s Golf Championship.

Additionally, Newberry is slotted in the top spot in the Southeast Region, just ahead of Lander. The Wolves compete at the Lander Bearcat Invitational in Greenwood on Monday and Tuesday.

The Wolves were eighth in the previous rankings but jumped up one slot by virtue of their performance at the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate. Newberry finished sixth of 16 teams, besting Division II counterpart Limestone as well as nine Division I opponents at the 54-hole event.

The performance followed last month’s win by 15 strokes at the Newberry College Invitational, held at the famed Ocean Course. Spencer Skiff earned the win with a near-course-record 65 on the final round to finish eight-under, while Carlos Leandro landed in fourth place a stroke over par.

Newberry continues its run of excellence this season. The Wolves have been ranked no lower than 13th throughout the year and reached a peak of sixth after the first rankings of the season.

West Florida holds the top spot, followed by Lynn, Barry, Nova Southeastern, and Florida Southern. Newberry is joined in the top 25 by South Atlantic Conference counterpart Lincoln Memorial, who checks in at No. 19. Coker is one spot outside the top 25.

The Wolves are also ranked 10th in the latest Golf Coaches Association of America poll, which was released March 10.
