The Eagles wasted no time answering, as senior Landen York homered in the bottom of the first. King scored twice in the top of the third inning, and again Newberry answered.

York, who reached on a walk and stole second, eventually scored. Daniel Bannister, who reached base on a fielder’s choice also scored in the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Payton Gardner singled and eventually scored on an error, giving the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.

Newberry added five runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win. Matthew Cole started on the mound for the Eagles, and walked three in three innings, but also struck out six batters.

Noah Moody came on in relief and struck out five, with no walks. The pitchers gave up only four hits combined. Defensively, the Eagles were sloppy early in the game, recording four errors in the first three innings, but settled down and had only one error the rest of the way.
