AUSTIN, TEXAS – Newberry College senior middle blocker Madison Darby-McClure has been named to the 2016 Academic All-District Volleyball Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Darby-McClure carries a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average as an English major and is one of Newberry’s top performers on the court this season. Darby-McClure is one of six student-athletes across the Southeast Region to receive the honor that combines athletic achievement and academic excellence; to be eligible, student-athletes have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and appear in at least half of their team’s contests.

The Colorado Springs, Colo., native is currently second on the team with 252 kills and 2.68 kills per set. She currently has a .284 attack percentage and leads the team with 62 total blocks. McClure was named South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week on Oct. 4. In three matches, Darby-McClure averaged 4.20 kills per set and had a .493 attack percentage. During the week of Oct. 4th, she totaled 42 kills, 7 total blocks and 46.5 points.

Darby-McClure’s selection marks the first All-District Volleyball team member since Holly Brisson and Elayni Stokes were named to the All-District team in 2014. The District three team includes NCAA Division II student-athletes from Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt and the South Atlantic Conference and is comprised of six members. Academic All-District selections now advance to the national Academic All-America ballot.

Darby-McClure and the Wolves (13-5, 16-10 SAC) will travel to Mars Hill (6-12, 7-18 SAC) Friday at 7:00 p.m.
