ROCK HILL — Junior Alyssa Ortega was named to First-Team All-Conference and senior Erika Linch received Honorable Mention for the Annual South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Awards, as voted on by the leagues coaches.
Linch was voted preseason Second Team All-Conference by the league’s Sports Information Directors back in August.
Ortega, a native of Venice, Calif., notched 15 goals on the season, which has her tied for first in school history and pegged for third in the conference. Her nine conference goals are second in the league. Newberry has a record of 7-1 in games in which the junior scores a goal. Her SOG% for the year sits at .559.
Alyssa has started in all 19 games of the season for Newberry as she leads the team in minutes played with 1590. She has registered two hat tricks on the season in wins vs. Brevard and Bob Jones. Her 31 points overall on the season are good for third amongst conference players. The 18 points in conference games put her in second place.
Erika Linch, a native of Yuba City, Calif., played in 17 games this season for the Wolves. The senior tallied 24 points on ten goals and four assists. She has notched multiple goals four different games this season, including a six-point effort in a game, twice.
Linch holds a first place tie in school history for most shots in a game, recording 12, in a 2-goal 6-0 win at Brevard.
Linch and Ortega have also cemented their names in the Newberry record book for shots in a season. Erika ranks 3rd with 71 shots on the year, and Alyssa ranks 4th firing 68.
