NEWBERRY — The Newberry Academy Eagles will face off against the Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders tonight.
The Eagles have a current standing of 2-6 and are 0-3 in the Region while the Raiders have a standing of 2-7 and are 1-2 in the Region.
Last year the Eagles and Raiders went head to head, and the game ended in victory for the Eagles.
“We played for the first time last year, which we won for our first varsity victory since the program was restarted,” said Eagle’s Head Coach Benji Sease.
Sease added that the Eagles and the Raiders are evenly matched teams. He said the Raiders remind him a lot of Clarendon Hall, last week’s game, they run first type of offense so the Eagles will have to be a more physical team and try to make them one dimensional.
For the Eagles’ offense to get past the Raiders’ defense, they will have to play hard and minimize their mistakes, much like they played last week.
“We have to take what they defense gives us and try not to force the issue,” Sease said.
During practice this week the Eagles have added a few wrinkles that will hopefully give the team an advantage. However, Sease says to win they will have to be who they are and do what they do.
“We have to let our young men know that if we do not win this game, there is no way to make the playoffs,” Sease said.
