EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Cedric Williams, assistant head football coach and offensive line coach at Newberry College, is participating in the NFL’s Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship for the third year, as he takes on an internship with the offensive coaching staff of the Minnesota Vikings through Aug. 13.

Williams was previously in Minnesota earlier this summer for organized team activities (OTAs) and rookie mini-camps. He will be with the Vikings when they start training camp on Sunday and stay with the team through Aug. 13. This will include the first NFL preseason game of the year when Minnesota plays in the annual Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 9 in Canton, Ohio.

Williams joins two of Newberry’s four NFL alumni in Minnesota. Tight end Brandon Bostick and seventh-round draft pick linebacker Edmond Robinson are currently on the Vikings’ roster.

Williams previously served Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship internships with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013 and the Carolina Panthers in 2012.

Williams is entering his fifth season as the Wolves’ offensive line coach and was promoted to assistant head coach prior to the 2013 season.

An alumnus of the University of South Carolina, Williams also coached the Gamecocks from 2006-08 and helped guide them to the 2006 Liberty Bowl and 2008 Outback Bowl. Before working in the football capacity at South Carolina, he served as an activity therapist for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. His duties included mentoring and designing athletic programs.

Williams was a first-team all-SEC performer for the Gamecocks in 2000. He was a starter on the offensive line from 1999-2002 and helped his team to two Outback Bowl wins (2000 and 2001). He was named a Preseason All-American and all-SEC in 2001.

Newberry College’s football team reports to campus on Aug. 12, in preparation for the first game of the season at Florida Tech on Sept. 5.
