NEWBERRY — For the first time since the 2013 season, Newberry College is ranked in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The Wolves enter the rankings at No. 23 this week after winning their seventh game in a row, tied for the second-longest winning streak and fourth-longest unbeaten streak in school history. Newberry’s eight conference wins dating back to last season are a new school record.

This marks Newberry’s 28th appearance in the AFCA poll since it was instituted in 2000. Newberry is 16-11 all-time as a ranked team. The Wolves were ranked for 22 weeks between 2006 and 2008, including an all-time high of No. 9 during the final week of the 2006 regular season.

Newberry is one of six teams from Super Region 2 in this week’s national poll.

The Wolves will put their No. 23 ranking to the test this week as they fight to retain the Bishops’ Trophy against Lutheran rivals Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff from Setzler Field is set for 4 p.m.
