NEWBERRY — The Newberry Academy Eagles are heading to Summerton tonight to take on the Clarendon Hall Saints.
The Eagles currently have an overall record of 1-6 and a region record of 0-3. The Saints are currently 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the region.
Eagles Head Coach Benji Sease said when the two teams played each other last year, the Saints won, but it was a close scoring game. Sease predicts this will be the case tonight, saying it will be a highly contested and roughly played game.
“They are a run first football team that will try and run it down your throat,” he said. “A lot of their offense is similar to last week’s opponent. We were able to do some good things last week, we just need to have a few more plays go our way.”
The Saints have big and strong lineman, according to Sease, and he said for the Eagle offense to get past them they will have to put a hat on to be successful. For the Eagle defense to stop the Saints’ offense Sease said they will need to play their responsibility, fly to the ball and be aggressive.
When it comes to the Saints’ greatest strengths, Sease said it is their running game and the ability to control the ball.
Tonight’s game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. in Summerton.
