CENTRAL – The Newberry College women’s tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep against Southern Wesleyan University on Friday to move to 3-0 in the fall season.

Marta Gomar and Amanda Carrillo started off strong in the No. 1 doubles position, winning by an 8-4 decision. Elizabeth Williamson and Lucia Davia also earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Rebeca Martinez and Veronika Viegas notched the sweep for Newberry in the No.3 position, winning 8-1.

Newberry also swept through singles play as Gomar (6-4, 6-3), Carrillo (6-2, 6-1), Williamson (6-0, 6-0), Davia (6-0, 6-1), Martinez (6-0, 6-0), and Viegas (Default) were all victorious at No. 1 through No. 6 singles.

The Wolves will close out the fall portion of their schedule as they host Emmanuel (0-2) on Oct. 28.
