GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Wolves (3-6, 1-4) were knocked off by the No. 18 ranked Pioneers (9-0, 5-0) on Sunday afternoon in a tough 3-0 loss.

Andre De Girorgi put the game out of reach with a goal in the 90th minute, chipping a ball over Newberry goalie Brad Dixon, for his eighth goal of the season.

Dixon was stellar in the match, and stood on his head in the second half keeping the Wolves’ within two goals. The South Atlantic Conference saves leader ended the game with 10 saves.

Newberry had a chance to cut the deficit to one in the 67th minute after back to back shots by Cameron Provan and Claus Lehland. A save by the Pioneer keeper on Provan gave Lehland a great look on goal, but a team save was awarded to Tusculum as a defender kept the ball out of the net.

The Wolves’ ripped off nine shots, six of which were on goal, to Tusculum’s 20 shots with 13 going on frame.

The Pioneers added their first two goals in the first half. In the 12th minute, Tyler Linkous headed home a cross from teammate Dallas Dunn.

Girorgi added the second tally in the 32nd minute on a cross from Isai Hernandez. Hernandez also assisted on the last Tusculum goal that put Girorgi one-on-one with Dixon.

Newberry still had their opportunities to create chances in the first half to get on the board as they were awarded five corner kicks.

Fabrizio Bucco tallied three shots for the Wolves’, two of which were on goal. Both of Lehland’s shots were registered on goal, and four other Wolves’ recorded one shot apiece.

On Oct. 5, the men will host conference opponent Anderson at Smith Road Complex. Kick-off is at 4 p.m.
